Payroll and Benefits Specialist
Our client, a premier and well established global private alternative investment management firm is seeking to hire a Payroll and Benefits Specialist based in their NYC office. This role is part of the Human Resources Total Rewards & Operations team and will be the key point of contact for the firm’s US locations. This individual plays a key role in executing all aspects of the payroll and benefit lifecycle for US employees. The ideal candidate should be deadline driven, committed to excellence and demonstrate sound judgement.

POSITION: Payroll and Benefits Specialist
LOCATION: New York, NY (midtown)
HOURS: 8:30am-5:30pm (with general flexibility)
IN OFFICE 4 days with Fridays WFH
COMPENSATION: $90k -100k base (DOE) + discretionary bonus + benefits + lunch (a day or two a week)
BACHELOR'S DEGREE: Required
Responsibilities of the Payroll and Benefits Specialist:
-Payroll administration for US semi-monthly payrolls and serves as a backup for Ex-US payrolls, ensure deadlines are met and according to established procedures
-Process payroll changes, examine and verify payroll related data for accuracy and consistency, and produce payroll reconciliation and reporting
-Assist with various audits such as US payroll audits, 401k audit, and Worker’s compensation audit
-Annual review of forms W-2 and 1095-C
-Support the integrity of the HRIS and payroll data
-Benefit administration including remittance reconciliations, processing joiners, leavers and life event changes and ensuring HRIS system is to up to date
-Play an active role in benefit plan design; make recommendations for structure changes when appropriate while keeping the Firm’s best interests at the forefront of all outcomes.
-Demonstrate high level of care and customer service in correspondence with Partners and employees; understand and communicate plan designs, conduct benefit onboarding and offboarding meetings, and serve as main point of contact for pay and benefit inquiries.
-Responsible for leave management including processing claims with carriers and maintaining active disability files to ensure compliance with FMLA and NY PFL rules, firm policies, and city, state, and federal regulations.
-Point of contact for third party payroll, benefit administrators, and benefit brokers
-Stay up to date of ongoing legislation influencing payroll and benefit offerings and implications, and ensure benefit programs are compliant with all laws, regulations, and policies.
-Responsible for creating and updating intranet content and ensuring all materials remain up to date.
-Drive and expand the firm’s Wellness program design and vendor management.
Requirements of the Payroll and Benefits Specialist:
-Undergraduate degree required.
-3+ years of US payroll and benefit administration experience.
-ADP Workforce Now experience required
-Workday experience required
-Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders.
-Strategic thinker with an execution mindset; willing to set the strategy and “roll-up” their sleeves to ensure high-quality execution.
-Strong work ethic and self-motivated; ability to set and manage priorities, multi-task and pivot as priorities change.
-Analytical rigor and attention to detail – leverages data to support decision making and to develop solutions; competency with Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
-Strong knowledge and thorough understanding of local, state, and federal laws and regulations involving payroll and benefits administration (FMLA, NY PFL, ADA, FLSA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA).
-Must be able to handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality and discretion.
