Director, Global Strategy & Business Development

Client: Our client is a global leader in the big data/digital space with a focus on legal, business, government and tax information worldwide.

JOB: Our client is seeking a Director, Global Strategy & Business Development. This person will work closely with the EVP of Global Strategy based in New York, to drive the business strategy to achieve our clients’ revenue and profitability goals and to maintain and enhance its industry leading position. The role requires outstanding leadership skills to work with a high-performing team, combined with exceptional analytical and advisory skills, commercial thinking, corporate M&A skills, the ability to plan, manage and deliver projects independently, excellent communication/influencing skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop and implement strategic plans and performance improvement projects across the various business units or the global organization

- Provide thought leadership and strategic and operational support to drive revenue growth

- Assist business units in developing their strategy in line with overall business goals, and supporting the development of strategy within that business unit, whilst engaging with cross-functional stakeholders, to provide high-quality, timely analysis and informed recommendations

- Independently plan and manage projects to address and solve key strategic issues facing the business units, or the Global organization delivering high quality results to planned timescales

- Independently manage all phases of complex projects from concept through delivery

- Manage multiple concurrent projects, keeping stakeholders updated and timelines on track

- Proactively conduct complex quantitative analysis, including financial modeling, data manipulation, application of logic and testing of hypotheses where data is incomplete, utilizing one’s own judgment to make recommendations

- Summarize analysis and recommendations in presentations and papers

Example projects include:

- Assess product and content capabilities and develop prioritized implementation plans to enhance competitive positioning

- Develop a growth strategy for business units by understanding current and potential use cases for its assets and develop a tactical plan to execute

- Analyse a book of business to identify attrition reasons and remediation plans including working with the business unit to implement recommendations

- Evaluate the attractiveness of new markets for our client and develop market entry strategies

- Research and analyse new technology trends and their implications for our client

2. Manage and deliver annual group strategy cycle deliverables supported by junior members of the team

- Manage and deliver the annual operating plan cycle including strategy reviews

- Manage the delivery of Board and Investor presentations from across different business units

3. Direct and review competitive and market intelligence analysis conducted by junior team members

4. Support the delivery of our client's group CEO presentations and events including annual Silicon Valley roadshow planning and global Senior leadership meetings

5. Support M&A pipeline in-line with broader strategic priorities

- Assist in evaluation of M&A opportunities, together with members of cross-functional global teams

6. Build, contribute and develop the global strategy team

- Support the development of an effective Strategy team, including ensuring knowledge transfer within the Strategy team and best practice sharing across the business

- Provide guidance and development support to other team members where required
